For example, Shar-teel as a dual-wielder looks nice in paper (specifically fan art) but she always struck me as more of a pragmatic warrior/in-your-face kind of fighter (aka sword and shield) rather than a flashy/opportunistic one (dual-wield), especially given how you meet/recruit her. Their starting proficiencies/spells/etc are kept unchanged, except for BG:EE because many of the EE changes just don't make sense. The most significant change I do is set all NPC levels to 1 (BG1) while everyone in BG2 starts with 89k XP. Probably sink most of those points starting points in stealth/traps. I'd argue that some kind of fighter/thief would be more appropriate (and incidentally gives you one more thief option). I suppose Wizard Slayer fits, but at the same time seems odd given Valygar's soft-spoken, subdued and mostly live-and-let-live personality (his hatred towards magic is quite specific - he hates his own bloodline/people who abuse arcane magic). Really, despite the fact that BG2 loves throwing magical weapons at you the only other natural dual-wielder is Haer'Dalis. I'd even argue that Valygar being a dual-wielder is CRUCIAL since Minsc is a two-hander, Mazzy's an archer, Korgan's a tank, Keldorn is Carsomyr and Jaheira is already beastly with just her spells - weapon profs are just a bonus (hell, she can rock slings and daggers just fine given all the potential fighter HLAs she gets). Also, there's not a lot of natural dual-wielders in the game and he fills that niche VERY nicely gaming-wise. I really don't see the point of changing Valygar's class because Stalker does fit him just as well RP-wise (turned his back on arcane magic but regardless has instinctual access to it, specializes in "hunting" people - not just casters). I don't think I hacked much else actually. I have done some wild stuff, like turning Xan into a Fighter/Mage archer specialist, very nifty build actually, though not overpowered. IIRC, most thieves I like to re-order their picks to meet my needs. If you can stand to dual her late, she's even better, but you'd really wonder why bother dualing if she's going to be inactive for so long, and frankly I kinda agree, dual at Mastery.

She's not as good as a min-maxed Archer PC would be, but she's a beast. If you get to Mastery and dual to thief she's still one of the best archers you could have in the game, but it requires spec in longbow to work. She's a great archer actually, and her low cons isn't a big drawback. Sometimes I make her an archer actually, and drop the TWF all together.
Oh, totally, especially thief skills and proficiency points, because some really feel sub optimal, standouts include Shar-Teel, wtf was going on with her profs? I sorta get it, but it really nerfs her IMHO, because it'd be nice to get mastery before DCing her to thief. Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition (French).
